Hebrews 5:11-6:12

EXPLORE

  1. What stands out to you in the text?

  2. The author uses the imagery of “milk” vs. “solid food” in reference to spiritual maturity. What are the differences in a believer that still need “milk” vs. “solid food?”

  3. What do you think the author means when he says, “let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God?” (v.1)

  4. In the warning passages (v.4-8), at first glance it would seem that a true believer can lose their salvation, but we know that is impossible from other passages in scripture (John 6:37, Romans 8). Who is the author referring to in these passages?

APPLY

  1. What are some examples of spiritual maturity? What are some ways we can know that we are growing in The Lord?

  2. We can all fall back into “laying a foundation of repentance from dead works” (v.1) by believing that we can earn God’s love and salvation. How can we grow in spiritual maturity through the knowledge that we are saved by grace and not by works?

  3. The primary way we know the legitimacy of one’s faith is through their perseverance to the end. How can we encourage, affirm, and challenge one another with this foreknowledge?
