  1. What stands out to you in the texts?

  2. Why do you think Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego responded to King Nebuchadnezzar the way they did in verses 16-18? What does this tell you about the faith they have in God?

  3. Why do you think Nebuchadnezzar says that the fourth man in the furnace with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego looked like a “son of the gods?”

  4. What was Nebuchadnezzar’s response after witnessing the three friends come out of the furnace unscathed? How does his reaction differ from the beginning of this chapter and why is that so?

APPLY

  1. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bow down and worship the golden image because they knew their God was the one true God. Though we do not have many golden idols constructed for worship in the west today, we still find idols in our culture, politics, and in our personal lives. What are ways we can refuse to bow down to the idols of our time and grow in greater worship of Jesus?

  2. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego had an “even if” faith in God. They believed God could deliver them from certain suffering and death, but even if He chose not to, they would only worship Him alone because He is the one true God.

What are ways we can grow in Jesus to have more of an “even if” type of faith? How do we live in the tension of believing that God can deliver us from pain and suffering, though we choose to still worship Him as God even if He doesn’t?
