  1. What stands out to you in the text?

  2. Martha is the one who welcomes Jesus into the home. What does this welcoming and the serving that follows tell us about Martha?

  3. Martha makes some assumptions about Jesus and her sister in verse 40. What are some of those assumptions? And what are the many things Jesus claims Martha is anxious and troubled by?

  4. Jesus claims that Mary has chosen the good portion by sitting at his feet and listening to his teaching. What does He mean by the good portion that will not be taken from her?

  1. Hosting and welcoming others into our homes and lives is a good thing to do. How does hospitality display the gospel? What are some practical ways we can grow in welcoming others into our homes? And what are some ways we can grow in welcoming Jesus into our lives daily?

  2. While hosting is good, we do not want to miss the central point of hosting, being in the presence of others… With Jesus it’s no different. How do we fight the temptation to make the hosting of Jesus (i.e. prayer, scripture reading, sabbath, etc.) a checklist to complete rather than a joy to behold and spend time with Him?

PRAY

We would grow in both hosting and beholding Jesus
