Exodus 20:16; Ephesians 4:25, 29-32

EXPLORE

  1. What stands out to you in these texts?

  2. What does it mean to “bear false witness” against someone? What does it look like to bear false witness against someone in our modern culture?

  3. Paul in Ephesians 4 tells the church not only to not lie, but to speak the truth and to use words that build one another up. How do we identify with Christ when we speak truth to one another? How do we identify with Satan when we lie to and about one another?

APPLY

  1. We often lie to protect ourselves, when in reality we end up just hurting ourselves and those around us. How does the exposing light of the gospel in our own lives empower us to “put away falsehood” against others?

  2. As it is for most of the sins in our lives, lying and gossiping are formative over time. The more we do it, the more we become a version of ourselves that we no longer recognize. What are some ways we can break these cycles? How can we help one another in this endeavor?

  3. How should we respond to those who are caught in a lie or who have lied against us? (see Eph. 4:31-32)

PRAY

  • For the needs of each other

  • For our CG’s to continue to be witnesses for the gospel to our communities
