EXPLORE

  1. What stands out to you in the text?

  2. The Samaritans were not jews but they practiced elements of Judaism and would claim to worship Yahweh while also worshiping false gods as well. What do you think was the cultural significance of a Jewish man speaking to a Samaritan woman at the time? What does this say about the character and love of Jesus?

  3. Jesus tells the woman that, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again.” What is the water Jesus is referring to here?

  4. Jesus tells the Samaritan woman that those who worship the Father must worship Him in spirit and in truth (v.23-34). What do you think Jesus meant by this? Why do you think He chose to tell the Samaritan woman this?

APPLY

  1. This story shows us how the light of Christ both exposed the sin of the Samaritan woman but also revealed to her who her Savior was. How does Jesus do this for us in our own lives? What are some ways that we block Him from this work? What are ways that we can invite Him in to do this work in our lives daily?

  2. The Samaritan woman’s response to meeting Jesus was to tell her whole community of the person she had met, and by doing so, they believed in Him. How often do you revisit your “moment at the well” with Jesus? How does this encourage you to tell others about Him?

PRAY

Take some time to pray for 2024. Pray that this year we would continue to grow into a people marked by the grace and love of Jesus and that our community would be changed by meeting and knowing Him.
