Psalm 130

Explore

  1. What stands out to you in the passage?

  2. What do you think the Psalmist means by “Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord?”

  3. Why does the Psalmist ask if God “marked iniquities” who could stand? What does it mean to “fear God” because of His forgiveness?

  4. What does the Psalmist mean when he says that his soul “waits for the Lord?”

APPLY

  1. If we have been forgiven in Christ, why are we as followers of Jesus called to ask for God’s forgiveness and mercy when we sin? (see Matthew 6:12-15)

  2. How does the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus free us to bring our deepest sorrows, shame, and sin to God with honesty yet confidence in His willingness to forgive?

  3. Many times when we’ve grieved our sin and asked for God’s forgiveness, though we know he has forgiven us, we still feel the guilt and shame because of it. What are some ways we can grow in waiting patiently on the Lord to move the reality of His mercy and forgiveness from our heads to our hearts?

PRAY

That we grow in receiving God’s forgiveness and sharing it with others

Pray for the needs of each other and for our city
