Luke 24:13-35 — The Road to Emmaus
Read Passage
Luke 24:13-35
Explanation
What stands out to you about this passage?
Why do you think the two disciples didn’t recognize Jesus?
Why do you think Jesus asks them “What things?” in v.19?
What does v.21 reveal about what the disciples thought Jesus’ main purpose was?
What’s significant about the way their eyes were opened to recognizing Jesus in v.30-32?
Application
Jesus approached the disciples in the midst of their grief to walk alongside them. How does this encourage you?
How might you be missing out on experiencing Christ like the disciples did (their hearts “burned within them” and then they ran back to Jerusalem they were so excited) because you’re looking for Him to meet in you extraordinary ways rather than in the ordinary?
The disciples were fixated on their felt need (v.21) rather than their deepest need (forgiveness, union with Christ, eternal life, cf. v.25-27). Where are you fixated on a felt need rather than what Christ has already given you?
Prayer
